The Hospitality of Need is all about caring for one another and seeing our needs, not as barriers or burdens, but as tools to grow deeper in fellowship with one another and with God.

Sometimes, the act of hospitality brings healing to wounds that we didn’t know we had.
When I first saw Kevan in the coffee shop I assumed that this red-headed young man confined to a wheelchair must live a life of bitterness and resentment. My prejudicial assumptions revealed an ugliness in my own heart.
As a Pastor I have preached that true joy and contentment comes from relationship with God and others rather than physical health and material wealth. But as I consider my first impression and assumptions about Kevan it reveals that my heart was not in line with my words.
Over the last decade of cultivating deep friendship with Kevan my heart is being healed. We have shared a lot of life together. We have been vulnerable in our needs and generous in our care for one another. Through our friendship and mutual hospitality I have come to know in the deeper places in my heart that joy and satisfaction do come through friendship with God and with people.

Through engaging real-life stories, Kevan Chandler and Tommy Shelton share what can happen when we invite others into our lives—hardships and all. Ultimately, this is a book about friendship . . . the kind that God has called us to live in . . . friendship that goes deep and flourishes, not in spite of our needs but actually through them.
