I met Kevan in December of 2009 at a concert in Charlotte, NC and we instantly clicked. We hung out after the show and discovered we had a love for many of the same bands. I had just finished college and was enjoying what I refer to as my last summer of freedom before the ‘real world’ started. That same summer, I embarked on a 2-week-long cross-country trip filled with sharing the gospel and doing mission projects along with three new friends I met through a Bible study. While on a stop just outside of Nashville, we stayed with Kevan at his friend’s house. I was happy to connect Kevan with my friends, who had a love for Christ and for helping others.
Later that same summer, Kevan contacted me to see if I was interested in coming out on the road with him to be his caregiver while we followed around one of our favorite bands on a few tour stops before finally landing in Florida, where he planned to spend some time with an older mentor. I said yes immediately, and we had a great time making new friends and strengthening our own friendship. Over the years, we have continued to encourage one another and talk music and theology.
I later became an occupational therapist and worked an internship at a wheelchair seating clinic that also specialized in neurological disorders. That experience led to another season of championing each other and continuing our friendship. No matter the distance or the amount of time that has passed from when we last talked, we always pick up right where we left off. Kevan always sees good in everyone and brings people together from all walks of life and circles. I’m honored to call him a friend. I love how God has used Kevan and his unique experiences for His glory and the good of others. As an occupational therapist, I have enjoyed connecting my patients, professors, and colleagues to Kevan, his story, and his invention of accessibility to continue reaching others who have a desire to help others reach their full potential.

Through engaging real-life stories, Kevan Chandler and Tommy Shelton share what can happen when we invite others into our lives—hardships and all. Ultimately, this is a book about friendship . . . the kind that God has called us to live in . . . friendship that goes deep and flourishes, not in spite of our needs but actually through them.
